I am a very passionate guitarist and instructor who loves sharing and inspiring others with the love of music. From 2008 to 2012, I studied Classical guitar at the Russian Music Academy in El Monte. In 2017, I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance. I have studied classical and jazz guitar, as well as songwriting and arranging. I also have a long experience in guitar performance, performing in solo and group concerts. Read More

My main focus of teaching is on the student, and on developing and expanding their existing musical interests. I develop a lesson plan and schedule that begins with the musical interests and passions of the student, their favorite bands, favorite songs and musical styles. From there I take each of their favorite pieces of music and demonstrate how the building blocks of music were used to create each, and how they can not only recreate their favorites, but start to create their own musical identity. Ive been playing bass and taking lessons since the early 2000s and playing guitar since 2010. I started working as a bassist at MI while I was still in school and I started teaching my own private lessons when I got out of school. Now I teach mostly out of my home studio or at the students home. Most of my musical experience I have learned from playing gigs around town. Read More

For beginning students, I like to teach simple and fun tunes that get them excited. I focus on single-note licks/melodies, and will gradually add open-chord progressions and songs to the curriculum. It's best to practice everyday even for 5-10 minutes, rather than every other day or few days for a longer period in my opinion. Once they start improving, I'll gradually teach more challenging songs that'll keep them engaged, but not overwhelmed. Read More

I really work hard to customize the lessons to each student, discussing with them (or their parent) what their goals are. For beginning students who are children, I use a few great books, some of which I even learned out of when I took my first lessons at age 6. For older students, I try to be open to any material they're intrested in. If a student is set on learning to play Beach Boys songs, we don't spend so much time on the classic technique and rudiments BUT over the last 15 years I've developed a system of incorporating fundamentals into practical application that gets my students playing real songs right away while improving technique. For students who are just starting out and happen to be children, I typically employ a teaching approach that begins with the acclaimed Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. This comprehensive method lays a solid foundation by covering the essential musical fundamentals. Once a young student has gained a firm grasp of these basics, it's an exciting juncture where I can start introducing them to a repertoire that's tailored to their level of advancement, all in preparation for their very first recital. I use a variety of guitar methods and always do my research to enrich my teaching repertoire. I use Frederick Noad' s guitar methods for beginning and intermediate students. with Advanced students I use pieces from my personal repertoire that I played during college years. I use Mel Bay's guitar methods for electric guitar and plectrum technique teaching. In addition, I use music theory and harmony books to enrich the students musical background. Read More
