I've had to teach four to six instrument parts to the band mates for a single song. Stopping a jam to nail down a part can be frustrating and slow the momentum of a jam session, but I've always felt it is imperative to keep everyone knowledgeable and in pocket. So in my music teaching experience, I've learned to keep a positive and patient vibe. There are always little humps to get over when learning new instruments or material, but encouragement will lead to big reward once the new skill is ingrained properly. Read More

I'm a passionate music teacher who loves working with students of all levels and sharing my love of music. In 2008, I graduated with honors with a bachelor degree in Music Education from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Also, I've been a touring musician for internationals artists, mainly as a guitarist, and I've worked as a session player, recording various stringed instruments, like guitars, ukelele, Puerto Rican cuatro, and more. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. My interest in guitar started in 2000 when I was in the fourth grade. I can still remember that day in music class when the teacher was showing us different kinds of instruments. Holding the guitar somehow felt right and interesting to me. I started taking guitar lessons, but within a couple of years of that, I was starting to find that I didnt really need the lessons to learn how to play songs because I was picking them up on my own. I’m a Texas native, from San Antonio! I found music when I was about 11 years old, and I was completely obsessed with Bob Dylan and Bob Marley! Because I couldn’t afford lessons, I learned as much theory as I could online. After playing in some bands in high school, I applied for the music program at Trinity University! I received my BA in Music in 2018, and now, for the past two years I’ve been giving lessons to people of all ages, with a focus in music theory and audio production! Read More

For beginner and intermediate students: I begin with the end; or rather, an end product. I ask questions like: What sort of music inspires you? What music do you love? What music could you not live without? What music do you aspire to make? Which musicians do you look up to? Depending on the answers, we can figure out a song / artist / style to choose as a goal together. Then I personally learn the chord structure and melody. (In the rare case that they are completely directionless, I'll choose a popular song that they can easily listen to on their own.) From there, I start teaching the fundamental techniques of the instrument, and continually refer back to our song, for why the technique is important. Read More

I like to divide my lessons into three different parts the first part would be a warm up in wish we get ready all the necessary muscles involved in playing the instrument with exercises that would develop dexterity and coordination simultaneously, the second part of how to listen is based on learning a basic piece of music that is guaranteed to develop the basic skills to perform something that they are interested on, on the cliff part of the lesson is to choose a song that the student wants to learn and analyze it apply what we learned by playing the basic peace and the warm ups.
