For beginning students who have no experience on their instrument, I usually spend a fair chunk of time working on basic technique using books like the Essential Elements series or Greg Horne's similar books for folk instruments. I usually combine the book material with other songs/pieces relevant to each student's interests. For more advanced students, I usually find a mix of repetoire relevant to their interests and technical exercises for them to refine and develop technique. Read More

Most of my education and experience working with students comes from a background of counseling and social sciences. I try to approach teaching music and guitar in a similar way to how I would approach any other kind of teaching, and attribute my unique background and skillset to make my lessons effective for a diverse range of students. Sometimes it may take me more time than is provided within one lesson to, for example, listen to and figure out how to play and teach a song that is new to me to a student is interested in learning it, so patience is appreciated. I am a passionate and dedicated musician with a broad range of experiences both in education and performance. As a solo artist, I have toured the United States extensively, and have performed at festivals in the Caribbean and Denmark. I earned my Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas in 2015, and have really settled in to the Central Texas community. Read More

I've had the opportunity to take guitar and voice lessons from a number of great instructors, and have learned a multitude of great methods from them. My teaching style is geared mainly towards going over fundamentals while finding the students interest in music. I encourage my students to listen to as much music as possible, to explore and find what they really enjoy. Playing along to music,or learning songs the student enjoys is a great way to apply the fundamentals, and make them more enjoyable to master. Read More

My plan of attack is to learn the guitar from every angle and allow all the information to fuse together for my students. I keep my lessons fun and upbeat, but with a focus. I ensure full comprehension of all subjects covered, and make sure that each student is challenged and learning constantly. In 3 months time, your hands will feel very comfortable with the instrument, you will use proper technique, be reading music on the guitar (if desired), transitioning between chords with ease, and learning a couple of your favorite tunes.
