I received her Bachelor of Science degree in political science and flute, graduating from the Ball State University honors college at age 20. I earned my masters degree and Ph.D in flute from New York University where I was the youngest woman to receive a Ph.D from the School of Arts and Sciences. A university professor for 12 years, I have been a faculty member of the University of New Haven where I taught flute, piano and economics in addition to teaching flute, music history and music theory at Southern Connecticut State University and South Central Community College. My teaching style is to observe each students background. I tend to try approach each student with their own "Language" to make them more easily to understand music theory concepts. Just like what I mentioned before, pure music theory is vague to most people; so I do make examples of implied meaning from other field to make the student catch the logic in their own field knowledge.
