To me it is one of the greatest rewards to see my students understand a concept or play a difficult passage. I believe it's important for each student to progress at his or her own pace because everyone has a different mindset. I often tell my students to just work on the first and second staff of the music so they don't overload themselves with work. Depending on experience level I like to get people making music as soon as possible. I know that trudging through the basics can be tiring. Of course some basics are neccesary but I like to make the basics sound as musical as possible. We will cover the fundamentals but we'll do so in such a way that it won't feel like so much work. I like to use books, depending on skill level, for reference but I have a very hands on approach and feel that the best work to be done together is the stuff that can't be found in the book. I began my guitar studies at the age of 12. A contemporary of the Tarrega School, I have taught and performed regularly as both soloist and ensemblist throughout my career. In 2012, I earned my Bachelors Degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska Omaha while studying with classical guitarist Hadley Heavin. From there we will progress into learning songs, developing musical interests, and playing our first performance.
