I began teaching 19 years ago and as one drum student grew to two, then to the occasional piano and guitar student, I eventually was teaching 35 students weekly.  I've been lucky in that I have taught such a wide variety of ages and skills.  I've taught actors to drum for roles, writers the lingo of the jobbing musician, and family bands pop songs for the school talent show.   I've always been open to scheduling whatever is easiest for the student, and I'm happy to do in-home lessons but since I began teaching the technology has advanced substantially. Beginning students I will start with Hal Leonards beginning guitar and school of rock tablature so theyre learning both tab and notes. More advanced students will learn jazz out of multiple different books. We can start the lessons usually with warmups on scales, arpeggios and chords then for the rest of the lesson, focus on material. Collaboration has been a cornerstone of my musical adventure, featuring esteemed artists like Cous, Grace De Vine, Lauren Hifrauf, Dandu, Diego Frenkel, Venus Cruz, Willie Green, Greg Tanner Harris, and Verena Fuentes. I use a combination of method books and my own original teaching material to emphasize certain topics/skills. Instead of going from one page to the next in a music book, I like to combine multiple books and original practices to keep my students interested.
