Having had so many teachers myself, I have a very broad understanding of what makes technique work and not work. I think developing my students ears and teaching them not only how to play music, but why music is the way it is by far the most important and invaluable part of my lessons depending upon my student's goals. If a student can understand why the songs I teach them are written the way they are, and are able to identify certain structures in a song, they then have the ability to teach themselves something I haven't yet, maybe develop their own opinions on individual songs, and even write their own! I tailor my lessons to the needs and levels of every student. I like to keep an organized electronic folder with PDFs for every student. Handouts on every specific topic are included in these hand-outs, some scanned hand-written exercises that I design for each student and some others extracted from books on different topics. Some books are suggested but I don't follow any single method although I find it very useful the Modern Method For Guitar by William Leavitt, the different books by Barry Galbraith for more advanced students, and The Jazz Conception series Read More

Because everyone learns differently, I teach from a technique I've developed which I refer to as the blank slate method. Though I do utilize workbooks for their very informative and easy to understand nature, I prefer to teach each student based on what they know or what comes naturally to them. This involves you the student, your instrument, and a pen and paper. For beginner students who are children, we work together to learn a simple song so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment and be further motivated to continue their studies. Read More

I am new to the guitar teaching game, but I will provide an effective and fun lesson plan. I have had various guitar teachers in my earlier days and have a very good understanding of what works for teaching students guitar. If you give me the opportunity, I will prove that I am probably better than most of the teachers with years of experience. I started playing music on trumpet and had many achievements on that, but fell in love with the guitar and am extremely passionate about passing on my knowledge of music and the guitar to students who want to learn. I generally begin with Alfred's Guitar Method for very young students or adult students who are interested in learning the rudiments of music. For intermediate students we work on polishing technique. I also use the Royal College of Music series for young students who are interested in taking the ABRSM placement exam. I have adult students who also want to learn songs they enjoy listening to, so we work with tablature (numbers). Read More

I love to help aspiring students to reach their goals and gain a more confident grasp of music. I've had many students over the years who have transformed their confidence levels after just a few sessions with me. Every student is different, and it's important to move at a pace that works for them. The most important aspect of being an effective teacher is helping students to develop a routine for their practice. Read More

Most important to my teaching is that each student to listens to a lot of music, and learns to play the music that they love as soon as possible. I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. I also have many exercises of my own invention that are fun to listen to and play, while still remaining challenging and building facility. Read More
