I tend to use standard materials, especially for beginning players. But I will also mix in exercises and techniques tailored specifically to the students needs. It is good to learn from books, but also important to vet information that is not necessarily needed or already soundly in their techniques. Every musician is unique and they have their own way about learning and progressing. For more advanced students, learning as much repertoire as possible will be stressed. Read More

Studying music and a specific instrument is not a straight line. There are multiple lines that cross and support each other's continuation. As mentioned previously, "Theory, Application and Technique" sums it up. We can't focus on everything all at once, so we have to prioritize what makes sense to emphasize now so that it will help us prioritize something else later. We set tangible goals when focusing on technique ("play A major scale in 8th notes at 120 bpm, for example), and can do this with music theory to an extent as well ("write out the notes of the B minor scale"). I use Alfreds guitar method books for guitar and bass.  Piano I use the Bastian and others.  I teach from both my song books, and by thier cd or audio tracks.  I teach each student individually and move them forward to performance level. I teach how to read music and music ear training.  Theory training is also available at lessons as needed. Once I get the student past the basics on to intermediate level, I can listen to cd or audio recordings and reproduce the instrumental part on the spot. Read More

I've been playing music since my nana bought me a mini piano as a toddler. I studied jazz piano, classical, and guitar throughout high school and continued through college where I received training in theory and performance. I currently am teaching at West Coast Music Academy in Santa Clarita, as well as actively performing as a guitarist in a band throughout Los Angeles. I'm a very free thinking teacher who likes to inspire students to love music. Read More

All of my students receive personalized lesson plans and materials based on their interests, abilities, and goals. I usually draw from multiple sources including my own materials to make each lesson plan fit the student. It is important to me to balance material that builds techniques on the instrument with material that the student enjoys. Having to do boring exercises with no apparent application to what the player wants to ultimately accomplish is, in my opinion, the biggest mistake made in music education. Read More

It is important for me that the student is motivated and enjoys the lesson since they have to keep loving playing and practicing at home everyday to be able to progress properly. Learning music as learning anything is about exploration and repetition. Once you understand something you have to be able to do it correctly a few times before moving on. This can only be achieved if there is a certain amount of practicing involved. Read More

I believe music is about expression and it is rewarding to find a way to help students to develop their own style. Therefore, it is important to know the student's needs and wants in order to establish a lesson plan. After reaching this first step it is easy to create some goals for each lesson. When the student feels that his needs and wants are fulfilled in the lessons, s/he gets more confident to work on new challenges. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
