My teaching style really depends on the student taking the lessons. It's important to set realistic goals each week for students that way they can progress at his or her own pace. Recognizing accomplishments goes a long way to fuel a student's desire to progress and makes the student coming back to learn more. By finding out what inspires the student to play, I can tailor my methods to their own wants and needs. Read More

Depending on a student's level of experience I use either the Mel Bay Modern Method or the Berklee Modern Method for the development of reading skills. More importantly, I can draw upon a large library of transcriptions and instructional materials that I, myself, have developed over the last three decades, supplemented by recordings and videos. I make sure that a lot of the lesson is spent actually playing, and like to give the student many opportunities to play along with someone else-namely, me. Read More

I started teaching guitar as a teenager - my fomer piano teacher referred me to a neighbor who was inquring about where to find a guitar teacher. I felt honored that my piano teacher recommended me! My background in counseling helps me to meet students where they are at. Read More

For my younger students I prefer using the Faber method books as well as "A Dozen A Day" for finger technique and dexterity. For intermediate and older students I introduce repertoire pieces in addition to leveled method books by Alfred. As my students progress I introduce classical pieces as well as suitable pop pieces based on their interest My older and adult students tend to be more goal oriented in their learning so lessons are developed based on their in individual needs. I am a working musician and actively published musicologist. My career as a concert musician began in the 1970's with youthful performances around the US and Canada. In early 2006, I was included in Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in Education in America, and in 2009 was added to the roster of International Who's Who in Music. I attended Wittenberg University (sacred music) studying conducting and orchestration with John Williams and Ian Polster, New York University for humanities, and the Mannes College of Music (MM classical performance and theory), studying with Robert Secrist, Frederic Hand, Charles Kaufman, Julius Levine, Yakov Kreizberg, Leo Edwards and Marie Powers and completed my graduate library studies with Jane Gottlieb at the Juilliard School. My scholarly work has been focused on the performance, documentation, historiography and promotion of music and performing arts. Read More

My teaching style depends on the student's age and ability. Student's at different levels and ages will need various approaches. For everyone, I try to be calming, supportive, and as fun as possible; there are differences for various ages. With very young students, it's important to be as supportive as possible; especially when learning new things that can often be frustrating. Having an environment of support is paramount to me in these lessons. Read More

I tailor my lessons to the needs and levels of every student. I like to keep an organized electronic folder with PDFs for every student. Handouts on every specific topic are included in these hand-outs, some scanned hand-written exercises that I design for each student and some others extracted from books on different topics. Some books are suggested but I don't follow any single method although I find it very useful the Modern Method For Guitar by William Leavitt, the different books by Barry Galbraith for more advanced students, and The Jazz Conception series Read More
