One of my main goals in teaching is to inspire my students, to make them excited about music. I find that the best way to do this is to work on playing music that the student wants to play. That said, there should be a basic interest present. I expect each of my students to have an idea of why they want to play music. Ideally each student should be listening to music and know what he/she likes or dislikes. Read More

I started teaching when i started college. I was first a substitute teacher. From then, I slowly built up my student database. I have worked for many music schools and have always had a packed schedule. I make sure the student feels at home and comfortable when taking lessons. I believe music education is important these days. Many schools are taking away their music programs. When teaching, I am confident in my skills for keeping the student interested, learning, and happy. Read More

I generally ask what your musical interests are and then I find a method specific for each person. I work on identifying chords, improvisation, playing melodies and song writing as well. I am a fan of William levitts books or jazz guitar which is a method I learned at berklee and is a very useful book for picking teqnique in a fun way , exploring some classical etudes for electrical guitar and i find this to be a great tool for developing speed, ear training and identifying chords with different sonorities to them. I began teaching when I was 17 and have a pretty busy schedule of up to 35 students a week! Many of those students still continue to take lessons after 3 years of instruction and have improved beyond their original goals. I find that each student has different interests (rock, jazz, classical, pop, etc.) which is why I enjoy focusing on what they want to learn. Other students do not know exactly what they want to learn; however, they just want to improve in playing their instrument all around. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2015 I graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in General/Choral Music Education with a Specification in Voice. In my career I have taught elementary, middle and high school general music, choir and musical theatre. I have also written and directed children's theatre, as well as performed around the country in the national tour of A Christmas Carol. Read More

My teaching style is to set a weekly goal for each student, in terms of music learning. It can be one or two songs per week, but the goal is to first learn all the necessary chords, then to learn the rhythm or the song and lastly to learn how to sing the song if they want to. The brain needs time and repeated training to be able to assimilate and learn that, and after each of these three parts are practiced separately then they start to be done together, and then it starts getting into an automatic's mode. I began teaching guitar part-time about 6 years ago as a side job, on top of my then-main gig as a grocery store clerk. Slowly but surely, however, I added more and more students to my roster and was able to phase out the grocery store job, and today I teach guitar full time! There are three main components I look for in a student: passion, potential, and diligence. If a student has the passion for music, the potential to get better, and the diligence to put in the time and work, the sky is the limit! Read More
