I'm a music lover/performer/composer/teacher who loves spreading the joy of music. I have an Associates Degree in fine arts for Bristol Community College where I studied all aspects of performance, music history, and composition. I started teaching music when I was seventeen years old and have teaching ever since. I have spent the majority my post college years performing as a freelance drummer and guitarist for dozens of musical acts in addition to teaching privately and in class settings in Boston, San Francisco, and NYC. A Texas native, Clynt grew up exposed to a variety of music. The southern influence of blues, gospel, country, and jazz were a huge part of his musical upbringing. While his formal training was largely in classical music for many years, he also remembers learning his first tunes note-by-not from his father (a jazz and country musician) in their living room in Texas when he was not out of elementary school. Having experienced both formal and informal training methods all of his life, he is adept at providing either - or any ratio - of the two to a student in need. Read More

It is my philosophy that every student is unique and therefore it is necessary to adapt lessons for each student. This individualized approach results with a personalized approach in order to accomplish the specific goals of the student. I teach both formalized and personal methods that guarantee results. I am well versed in music theory and various practice techniques. I believe that learning to read music and tabs can be helpful but not essential to learning how to play an instrument. Read More

For all beginning students , I typically start with Mel Bay's Guitar Method and Hal Leonard but I also like to throw in some of my own personal lessons that can help students grow faster. Once the student has good understanding and grasp of the fundamentals, My student and I will both decide on repertoire that they can play according to their abilities. For adults or more advanced players, I try to find out what their interested in playing. Read More

Music lessons should be fun - I have practical tips for practicing but the student's desire to learn will be the drive. The most important thing is to keep picking up that instrument - even if its for 5-10 minutes a day. By modeling that all teachers are still students, I create a safe and supportive environment. I like to hear what kind of music my students are listening to and incorporate that in the process, as it excites and motivates students to play the music that they love to listen to. Read More

When teaching children, I typically start out with Suzuki cello repertoire. I am also very serious about teaching physical concepts so that the student is able to express themselves through the instrument I believe that there are certain technical principles that must be communicated and I do my absolute best to make sure that the student understands them. As students become more advanced I then introduce repertoire that suits them and that I believe they will enjoy. Read More

I am very focused when teaching but I try not to bore the student with repetitive exercises, varying the material constantly, depending on the student. Some students are more focused than others and they're able to endure greater amounts of effort into a single task. In the beginning there is a kind of audition to determine wether the student will follow through a theoretical way of teaching, by using musical terminology, or a more intuitive kind, by using tablature and listening.
