I have been teaching Private Lessons since 2008. I began in California (where I am from), teaching guitar and electric bass to younger kids in the high school and middle school I went to. Then in 2010 I went to Berklee to focus on my studies, developing my skills in performance and in education, while always performing and teaching privately on the side. Since Berklee, I have given clinics and masterclasses in numerous countries, and deepened my love for teaching and my methods. Read More

For beginners, I have a multitude of etudes, simple songs, and exercises to encourage sight-reading, finger comfortability, and basic cognitive understanding of music fundamentals such as scales. For guitar, I usually begin with fun simple songs such as "What do we do with the Drunken Sailor" and a simple blues. For woodwind instruments, I'll typically begin with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, or some holiday songs during the holiday season. Read More

For beginning students at Chelsea High School, I developed my own guitar method books, level 1 and level 2, which use tablature for its very graphic and easy-to-understand method of learning notes on the guitar fretboard which have remained the texts for guitar classes at the High School since my departure. To supplement this I have the Hal Leonard Essential Elements for guitar, and a number of other texts, which offer other approaches, songs, and material. Read More

I'm a multi-instrumentalist with over a decade of teaching experience who really enjoys watching my students grow as musicians. In 2015, I graduated from Umass Amherst with a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and Arts Administration. As one half of the duo, Kid Coyote, I have had the great fortune of being able to play up and down the east coast from Maine to Pennsylvania. I look forward to taking on new students and sharing with them what I have learned from my teachers and what I have picked up as a traveling musician. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I usually start with the Hal Leonard andFJHyoung beginner guitar method seriesbook for guitar and ukulele. As soon as they can, I try to move them on to learning and strumming songs that they like. For more advanced guitar students, I also teaching reading and theory out of the Mel Bay guitar book series. For banjo students, I teach out of the Hal Lenoard Banjo Method book. Read More

My lessons are organized around a few core elements: fundamentals, technique, note-reading, and repertoire. For all students, grasping the fundamentals of pitch and rhythm is essential, so exercises that continually reinforce these fundamental skills are a typical first order of business for each weekly lesson. Simultaneously, I guide the student through proper posture, form, breathing, and mental preparation. For children, and any adolescents or adults who are truly serious about music, I encourage the development of sight-reading skills for musical literacy. Read More
