Piano Students For students aged 4-16, I use a piano series called Piano Adventures by Faber Faber. Ordering these materials can be set up through me, or on your own. Please consult me, for specific details on the level and series you will need. In addition to using this series, as a guide to music literacy, I incorporate: sight reading rhythm reading technical focus and games For adult students, depending on the goals of the student, I use a combination of materials, including Accelerated Piano Adventures by Faber Faber, as well as a collection of classical materials from The Pianist's Guide to Standard Teaching and Performance Literature by Jane Magrath and materials related to popular piano performance. I have spent the majority of my life as learning the guitar and studying music, and I am dedicated and passionate about sharing my knowledge and love of the instrument with the students I teach. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors Degree in Guitar Performance and recently just moved to Nashville where I am currently playing professionally and teaching students. For beginners, I start with the basic fundementals of guitar and I work diligently with them to establish a solid foundation on which to build a lifetime of playing. I began teaching private lessons five years ago during my first year in college. I consistently taught privately, as well as in classroom settings in youth music programs in Boston. I also developed and taught courses in songwriting and music theory for teenagers. I encourage students to develop their age-appropriate practice routines, and support them in sticking with them. While there is no "One-size-fits-all" for all students, I start most students off with Essential Elements or Suzuki. As they progress I try to include pieces they like, pop songs, and different genres. The variety helps them stay engaged, learn a bit about different styles to broaden their knowledge, but also, have fun. As they get intermediate levels the paths diverge. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! I find it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more.
