I love all genres of music. I've been playing guitar everyday for 17 years and it is my main instrument. I also play saxophone, bass, drums, and keys. My educational background includes an associates degree in music (including performance, theory, and history) and a bachelors in audio recording and business. My studio includes drums, guitars and basses, a few amplifiers and several vintage electromechanical pianos. I have the ability to record lessons. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, i can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I am an accomplished self-taught musician. I am classically trained in Piano, which made teaching myself guitar, bass, organ, and keyboards (multiples at once) that much easier, and then I took lesson in each to sharpen the skills. I am also experienced in arranging, recording, and mastering thus I bring a unique expertise in blend and improvisation. I am seeking a teaching position where my focus is assisting others in learning and/or honing a craft as opposed to my focus being on locating clientele or promoting myself. Read More

I begin my students with the fundamentals of music and the instrument. As we expand our musical knowledge, we also broaden our understanding of technique, because I strongly believe that every musician, no matter the genre they ultimately play, needs a strong foundation of musical knowledge and technical proficiency on the instrument. All the while I take into consideration what style the student is interested in. I try my best to incorporate the students interests from the beginning, and as the student reaches a higher and higher level, we work more concentrated in the direction of their interests. Read More

With students of any age, I consider it my number one priority to create a learning environment that is both encouraging of their growth and passion for music, and supportive/safe for them to take the risks and meet the challenges necessary for that growth. I always work to maintain a dialogue with students about their interests and ensuring that our work includes and stimulates those interests, while also finding ways to make our work on fundamental techniques and building blocks as engaging and fun as possible. I believe in the power of the Socratic Method in which a student’s question is not greeted with a black and white answer, but rather with a line of questioning that will allow the student to arrive at the answer on their own. I have also found improvisation to be the most effective way of allowing students to express themselves and feel excited about playing. Reading music and ear training are pillars of my approach, but improvisation is where students can really find their voice. Read More

I approach teaching with patience. When a student learns concepts and techniques for the first time, it might take a while to really get it down. By having a patient and calm aura, it helps the student to not get frustrated. In addition, each student learns at their own pace. Some might get it quicker that others and that's fine. It is important to be patient with them so that they can learn comfortably. Read More
