Under my instruction, creativity is nurtured along side of every technique and skill that I teach. This will help the student develop the ability to create their own original music and deepen their interest in their instrument. I also try my best to make learning and practicing as fun and musical as possible. Of course, we must first learn how to make the instrument sound and how to maintain the instrument. Read More

I started teaching when I was an undergrad in college. I've taught students of different ages with different personalities. I found it important for myself as a teacher to change my teaching styles according to each student. Using the vocabulary or description that the student understands and give them what they need/want is a better way for them to learn. There's no short cut to success. If you want to learn an instrument, regular practice and lessons are required. Read More

I move at whatever pace is appropriate for the particular student. We set long-term goals so they have something they are working towards and are rewarded for hard work. Learning how to play the piano is about so much more than just the piano! The benefits reach far beyond music, helping them with school, self-confidence, and many other aspects in their everyday life. Although we do follow a method book for at least the first few years, we add additional solo music, and I let them choose from several level-appropriate pieces so that they are enjoying what they are learning. I am passionate about communicating through music and training others to achieve their full potential as a musician. I have served in twelve different churches over the years as a Minister of Music, and am still serving in that capacity. This has involved directing vocal choirs and ensembles of all ages, directing handbell and handchime choirs, and directing seasonal musicals and pageants. One of my greatest joys is working with individual soloists in preparation for singing in worship services. Read More

Every person has different strengths, weaknesses, motivators, and goals. I like to keep all of these things in mind before I start designing a lesson plan for each person. I like to make sure that I am teaching both the ear to listen and the eye to read, so I make sure I can improve the development of both by providing effective sight=reading and aural exercises in every lesson.
