Instruments: Clarinet

I like to start beginning students with a combination of sheet music and by rote teaching. If a student comes to me with method books or other materials, we will start with those and I will suggest other materials as appropriate. I often have more advanced students work through various scales books and Rose etudes, and whatever other type of music interests them. I utilize duets often in lessons to work on sight reading and blend, tuning, and leadership. Read More

My teach experience began in my freshman year of college when I worked as a string/theory instructor at the Lake Country Conservatory of Music in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin where I worked with students of all ages and skill levels. I have worked as a private instructor for almost eight years now and have only grown to love it more with every lesson that I conduct. Nothing fulfills me more than seeing a student perform, whether it is at a concert or competition, because seeing the musical and expressive growth that has been cultivated come out through the student is an absolutely beautiful experience. As a guitar instructor for more than twelve years, the main goal of my teaching strategy is to keep my students motivated and engaged. This strategy can keep the students’ passion all along their academic journey. It also helps them to stay focused on their future goals despite some difficulties and obstacles that can face them through the learning process. Moreover, keeping effective communication with the students outside and inside the school is vital, in order to assist them in their studies and make the school environment more friendly and acceptable. Instruments: Violin

I like to teach with the music from the Suzuki books and then the Bach Sonatas and Partitas, out of an interest in teaching with actual music as opposed to scales or etudes, but I also introduce repertoire from outside those books, and isolate sections of standard violin repertoire for learning. This has the advantage of always keeping music in our ears as we play (by this I mean, we do not lose the sound of music in the sound of the violin as I feel can happen in overtly technical exercise), which is essential to growing an authentic relationship to one's sound and, by extension, to learning new ways to improving one's sound. If someone does a technique wrong for 7 months, it willprobleytake me 17 to fix it and break the habit. I use several books for my students but two of my favorites are both written by Louie Bellson. "Modern Reading Text in 4/4 time" and "Modern Reading text in odd-time" - They are different books than most use, and I use them especially for my jazz students but I have fount them to be invaluable. I provide a structured yet stress-free environment when teaching. I custom make the lesson plans to meet the need of each student, and I play or sing each assignment, then have the student go through everything once before doing it at home. I am also available by phone if a student needs to contact me regarding a problem with their lesson at home. I also include in each lesson music computer time which works on their ear-training, music history and other theory as needed. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
