I have worked in many music schools teaching piano major and minor students preparing for professional performance careers. I've lived in several different places such as: Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, California, and I've even lived in the Philippines. I take each student's personal goal and gear their lessons toward this goal. By giving each student a realistic short term goal that feeds into their ultimate aspiration on the drums, they will get to see the progress they are making and are encouraged to keep practicing and improving. I use a mix of different instructional texts depending on what we are working on, and will sometimesprovide custom made exercises for a student if needed. Read More

I have been teaching music for 8 years now. My experience includes wind ensembles, jazz orchestras, jazz combos, and chamber groups. I currently hold a position at Chabot Community as the Low Brass Instructor and Jazz Trombone Instructor. I teach all ages ranging from elementary school all the way up to the collegiate level. I currently work for notable organizations such as the Stanford Jazz Workshop where I mentor various junior high to high school aged students who are part of an all-star auction based ensemble. Especially for young people, maintaining interest and ensuring that they continue to see the value of their musical education is essential. I remember a very frank conversation with my mother when at 13 I wanted to give up music to play football, and I blame that on the style of teaching I was receiving. Whilst there is stuff not to like about instrumental learning - for some it's scales, for me it was sight reading - the satisfaction comes from masterng these challenges, and if we can keep these short and long term goals relevant to the student, getting the practice hours done may be a litte easier on everyone!
