My teaching style is individualized to meet the needs of the students. I like to use a portion of the first lesson to discuss the goals and musical interest of the student regardless of age. I encourage beginner students to learn basic theory to develop rudimentary skills. I then try to incorporate a student’s favorite music into the lesson plans. I strike a balance between pushing for skill and making sure a student has fun. That balance rests on communication how invested, listened to, and motivated they feel. To establish that communication, we'll talk each week about progress, concerns, and triumphs. I also try to find the roots of problems. In college that passion, combined with my passion for music, led me to major in music education.
