Since the begining, I focus on sight reading and learning repertoire strategies. I believe that if the student is capable of reading and learning the repertoire quickly, he or she will become much more motivated and the act of practicing will be something pleasant. I like my students to fell they practice because they like to, and not only because they have to. For beginning students I focus on easily accessible music theory to tackle several key musical ideas at once; notes on the instrument, key signatures and scales, and the ability to read musical pitches and rhythms in music notation.
