I believe that music a personal experience. When faced with a new student I always ask them what type of music they are into and what are they interested in learning and how that type of music makes them feel. It is a critical part of my teaching method. I believe when a student is learning something they have a personal connection to they are more engaged. I have a very energetic and adaptable teaching style. Having worked with students from 3 years old to in their 30's, I can mold lessons to fit any type of attention span. I have also worked with students with special education needs and physical issues, so I can also work with parents to find ways for any student, regardless of their situation, to enjoy a life of music. I move at a very quick pace, but I have my students set their own goals. While I will select the literature for the student, I want them to feel successful when they are working with me. I want students to be confident and successful, so I will do anything in my power to help them learn good technique and practice habits. With more than 10 years classical music training and education, I strongly believe my passion in music and solid singing technique can help my students improve their musicality and skills. Once appropriate repertoire is selected, students are regularly assessed on their improvement and growth. I draw a great deal of my philosophy and pedagogy from outside sources and disciplines. Method books from world-renown artists and educators provide inspiration for my lesson plans. I often equate mastering music to mastering a foreign language; fluency resulting in mastery of vocabulary and communication. I also draw inspiration from the Alexander technique; regarding ones body as part of the instrument, as well as cultivating effective practice and performance routines. Read More
