I use Jamey Aebersold's books as a foundation for jazz and popular music when students are ready. After that, I like giving my students individual work that is tailored to their needs like solos, jazz tunes, and more. I teach with an emphasis on tone and sound production. I believe that once we know what sound we want to create we are better able to physically make it happen. Through this ideology I use the Suzuki method and like to prioritize listening and playing by ear before note reading when the students are young beginners. My Masters Degree -Flute Performance is from The University of Michigan where I studied with Leone Buyse as a full scholarship student.While in Michigan, I had a large studio of private students in many local high schools.I taught at college music preparatories and privately while in Cleveland, Ohio where I studied with piccoloist William Hebert at Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music, also under scholarship. After those first two books I move them into the Rubank Intermediate Series of books. For saxophonist, and even some clarinetist that would like to learn some jazz I use the Lennie Niehaus Jazz Conception Series.
