When a solid foundation has been established, it is much easier to approach those more complicated concepts. It then allows everything that a student do to become easier and truly move forward in their learning at an accelerated pace. I like to find songs that students really care about, because then they will be more interested in learning them. My teaching style is very flexible in that all students are different, and learn in different ways. Ive taught really young kids and Ive also taught seniors. I teach violin under the traditional method. If the student is a beginner and a younger child, I use the Suzuki method as well, although I am not officially trained. I supply all of the materials for my students. For beginners, I ask that they choose 5 songs they really want to learn to play. Through those songs, I can introduce many technical and musical concepts. It is very important that this is a positive musical experience. For other skill levels, I assess their skill level and proceed accordingly to help them achieve their musical goals, working with technique and musicality to create a great player. Read More

Part of our final project included giving a sample lesson to a colleague, and I fell in love with helping someone achieve their goal through singing. I have taught in several different settings over the years, but my private studio has been the most satisfying environment.
