Over the years I have developed my own method for teaching guitar students of different levels. The first step is always to determine the current knowledge and experience so we know where to start. For beginners, I like to help the student learn basic chords so that they can quickly play a few songs and have fun right away. The more a beginner enjoys playing, the more they will want to learn and practice. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was still in high school. I would go to middle schools and give lessons. Now as a college music graduate, I have taught many ages including college peers. I think it is important to teach skills and methods that will help the student problem-solve and continue to learn even when they are alone. My students have done well in auditions and chair tests, and I always encourage both recitals and competitions. Read More

I started teaching way back in 2001, my first year of college, at a music festival in Vermont. It was a group clarinet & sax class, and it was so much fun! I gradually realized as college went by and I began teaching more and more, that while enjoyed performing, teaching was my real passion! I have been teaching both the clarinet and the piano full-time since 2007, and consider that my passion and my profession. Read More

Then I would go ahead and just hit a drum book with basic rhythms and start to go through it and try to create exercises from it. I have my own philosophies too, being taught by world class marchers, from whom I have obtained those philosophies from. Read More

Each lesson plan I create varies from student to student. During the first lesson I have with a new student, I asses what they know, and what they would like to learn. I then teach the necessary building blocks in order to reach certain goals that the student and I set in a timely manner. By doing this, the student learns at a comfortable pace, and they will absolutely notice their progress after only a few lessons. Read More

For beginning drum students, I typically like to start with the Percussive Arts Society sheet of rudiments to ensure a solid technical background as the student progresses. After that, we move on to simple reading and other drumming fundamental concepts including limb coordination, fills, phrasing and articulation, etc. With older students, I find it helpful to try and begin with what they are interested and comfortable in playing. This allows me to find connections and build lesson plans specifically for the individual. Read More
Instruments: Trombone
For beginners, I start by focusing on developing a good sound and ensuring that the student knows what a good sound is and what it is not. Air is the foundation of a good sound so, in my introductory lessons, I focus heavily on breathing and air support. This is a foundation that is continued throughout the time the student continues to take lessons. I then begin to work with the student on fundamentals such as articulation, slide control, intonation, etc. Read More
