I always aim to create an environment that leads students to discover their own passion for music! I provide constructive feedback which always focuses on the positive so the student learns to pay attention to what they are doing right. Setting reachable goals every lesson helps a student feel like they are in control of their own success and builds their motivation to succeed. I believe it is important that the student learn to recognize their own accomplishments so that as they are practicing, they can begin to become the best judges of their own progress and get the most out of their lessons. I always keep the students in mind with progression and excitement constantly. The throwback from week to week will give both the student and teacher a insight what has to be improved and advanced. I have many students playing professionally in bands and orchestra's as well. Each student has individual needs that will be in conjunction with the personality of the student a great rapport with both of us or group I am working with. Read More

While getting my Masters in Music, I assisted teaching Music Theory at the University of Iowa. From there,I taught classes of students at the West Bank School Of Music in Minneapolis. From the Midwest to the Southwest: I taught students at Los Angeles schools and privately there also. I learned what were the best musical works with which to engage students: - Beloved classics by Beethoven, Chopin and others - New Age music by Winston, Einaudi, and Yanni - Gospel works in the best arrangements for a student's level, and - Folk music and works from American History, such as Ragtime, classic Blues, and Jazz-Age music. Every student is different and has different dreams, needs and goals. So, my teaching style relies heavily on communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. My first lesson is focused on setting goals for yourself and unearthing musical dreams and ideas. The following lessons are about hitting that goal as soon as possible. Once that goal is hit, I set another goal with you, and so on. I keep an eye on making sure you get the essentials (notes, finger placement, posture, good habits, etc.) and incorporate the things you are needing or missing into our goals. Read More

I like to create lessons in which students learn to read traditional music notation, develop technique, and play familiar tunes. I use musictheory.net to help student practice reading note names. The faster a student can read musical notation, the faster the student can pick up new pieces. To develop technique, I want students to lean scales and arpeggios. Sometimes, we use a technique book to develop muscle memory, and other times technical exercises are created based on the tricky musical passages of solo or ensemble pieces. Read More

Seeing my students develop a passion for music is very rewarding! Every student is an individual and moves at their own pace, I work to asses the areas that I feel the student needs to focus on, and keep a positive, encouraging approach to working through the challenges that playing the piano presents. With both younger and adult students, I give feedback on the pieces by writing notes in a notebook, and or the music itself. Read More
