I use the Suzuki method which is an ear training method that trains the students to play familiar songs without having to read music. I teach them to read music afterwords. Much of my teaching method revolves around improvisation and experimentation. I use these techniques to get a feel for my students and then personalize the lessons to what suits their particular needs. Read More

I am a dedicated professional who continually strives to better herself in all activities (especially music!). I have a passion for helping others achieve their musical goals and to improve their playing in whatever genre they desire. Whether it be jazz, classical, or popular transcriptions, music is music. During my Bachelor of Arts degree in Saxophone Performance, I spent countless hours performing in with piano accompaniment in recitals, in saxophone quartets, in jazz bands, and in various other small ensembles. For students between the ages of 3 and 7, I typically use either the Little Mozarts method or the Birds and Dogs method. For students who are older, I use a combination of methods, including Alfred's, Bastien and Faber. I have also designed and used my own curriculum for students with special needs, including students who have autism, cerebral palsy, nerve damage, ADHD and for gifted students. I incorporate classical music including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Kabalevsky and many others for more advanced students, and especially for students who are competing. Read More

My basic approach to teaching is to evaluate where the student will be most able to gain skill and knowledge that helps them reach whatever their musical goal is. I customize my teaching to each students needs and abilities to optimize success and progress. I found thru my years of teaching hundreds of students that the ones who feel they got something they were wanting to learn are the most motivated to keep going. Read More

Truly enjoy seeing students seeing students get it, musically and become successful. I teach as if I am training my replacement so I can attend a concert and hear them play; specially when I am too old to play but can still hear a good concert. I have played with many groups in the United States (including Hawaii and Alaska), Central America, Jordan, much of Europe (France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, England, Scotland). Instruments: Flute
I've been playing flute for many many decades. I keep it fresh by continuing to learn more about music. It's an endless well of possibilities. I currently play with a jazz quartet. I've played flute since i was 9 years old and currently favor the alto flute, with its rich, lower tone. I play and teach both C flute (regular flute) and the alto flute. In teaching, i emphasize music basics and also focus on comfort which leads to better tone and more ease. Read More

I believe that a strong foundation is essential for steady progress and confident performance. A comprehensive approach is my preference. Therefore, when I teach piano, I prefer Faber and Faber Piano Adventures paired with A Dozen a Day for added technique. Since many students in this school district are in band or orchestra, I usually use Essential Elements for Strings, Brass, and Woodwinds. I spend a reasonable amount of time preparing my students for our recitals and many of them join in the group songs, which have included "What a Wonderful World", "Happy", and currently "The Theme From Midnight Cowboy".
