At the Conservatory she pursued the violin and took lessons from Paul Hatton of the Kansas City Symphony. I’m a recent college graduate with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy. I started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old, and continued lessons through high school and for a few semesters in college. I started singing in choir when I was 10 years old, and have been in one or more choirs ever since! I started taking private voice lessons in high school and decided to choose voice as my college major. Read More

I began teaching lessons while in high school to friends and other students of varying ages. Having taught in several music shops, I currently teach students from my house or in their own homes, which is why Musika was an attractive company for me. My background in music and teaching spans a diverse set of styles, and I try to encourage students to broaden their musical horizons by introducing them to music they may not have otherwise heard. For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More

I graduated from Kansas State University in 2018 with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance and a minor in Theatre. Over the past 5 years I have had 7 beginner piano students and 10 voice students of varying levels. I have taught ages 5-10 for piano and 11-20 for voice. I currently teach online via FaceTime/Zoom, am available to go to students homes or host them in my studio. I love teaching the next generation of musicians to find their voice and confidence in their instrument so that they can share their gifts with others and edify themselves.. Read More

You can compare it to trying to learn algebra before addition or how to square root before subtraction, you will become frustrated because the concepts are progressive and you don't have a grasp of the basics yet. Frustration is not my teaching goal for my students. My ultimate goal is to provide my students an engaging and fun way to build the musical tool belt they need to play whatever kind of music they like -- independently. Read More

As I said above, I always want to have a fun and low-stress environment in my studio. There is nothing worse than coming in to studio practice time tight and stressed about how you may sound. There is no judgement in my studio. Everyone makes mistakes, yes, including me! (Haha) And there is no better way to improve than to make a confident mistake, because that is how we learn how to get better and what we can improve on! Read More
