My teaching style when helping out others is being laid back but also making sure that what we assign is being worked on. One thing that I have noticed in myself is that if I try to take more than I can handle, I set myself up for failure so making sure whatever we are working on is enough to keep you practicing until the next time we meet. I also love seeing anyone succeed so when that happens we make sure to be supportive but also make sure if something doesn't sound quite right we take some time to address that and see what we need to do so that next time you come, we are acing the material! The goals of teaching are the same for each student, but the process of achieving the goals is usually tailor made for each person. Upon meeting a student for the first time I like to hear from them about where their interests lie, what their goals are, and what they already know about their instrument and music in general.  Lessons are custom-tailored based on these facts.  I like attempting to expand on their interests and introduce them to music they may not be aware of but I think they'll love.  My favorite part is when they light up upon hearing something really cool for the first time! I am an active soloist, orchestral player, and chamber musician currently living in Boston! I have performed with leadership roles in a variety of local ensembles, including the New England Conservatory Philharmonia and Wind Ensemble, as well as the New England Philharmonic.  My performance activities brought me on tour with the University of Washington Wind Ensemble to Beijing in 2013 and I have recently had the opportunity to travel internationally to work with renowned flute specialists, such as Jeanne Baxtresser, Bonita Boyd, and Leone Buyse. With younger students, I focus on rhythm, simple ear training, and light reading. I will gradually introduce harmony and more intensive ear and rhythmic studies as the student progresses. I think it is important for students to apply their knowledge through performance opportunities and songwriting.
