I like to set attainable, yet challenging goals for each student. Ensuring that each student progresses at his or her own pace will encourage the development of a love for music. I try to acknoweldge a student's progress in order to inspire a desire to keep learning. Each lesson includes some technical exercises, a theory component, and other components pertinent to the specific instrument. For example, piano and organ students will learn scales and arpeggios, voice students will learn various breathing techniques. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with Suzuki Book 1. A strong foundation is key to playing the violin/viola. I do teach the Suzuki method, but I understand that method of teaching does not work for all students--one size does not fit all. I believe all students have the innate ability to learn an instrument despite their background. I find the Suzuki books provide a strong foundation with the ability to play full songs from the start. For beginning students under the age of 12, I typically like to start with Singing Lessons for Little Singers and New Singing Games for Young Singers: Ten Original Singing Games by Donna Rhodenizer. Once they have progressed and picked up the fundamentals from these lessons I like to move on to Hal Leonard's Giant Book of Children's Vocal Solos. For ages 14 and up I like to focus on songs/styles my students are interested in. Read More

For me, it is easier for me to hear a rhythm or melody while looking at it. It is easier for me to grasp and understand the rhythm and melody in terms of the context of the piece. Same with my teaching. I will always demonstrate a scale or rhythm or chord for a student before having the student attempt it by themselves. After we work through the example together, I will have them try playing it alone and if a particular area needs to be fixed I will address it, make sure the student understands, and move on from there. Instruments: Piano Voice

As being a student of some great singers, teachers and Maestros of Bel canto style of singing here and in Italy, I am a strong believer and practitioner of that school. Just like any other instrument, ours is one and the same, no matter what style we choose to perform. The only difference is- we, as singers, must build our instrument as well as learn how to use it at the same time. if built wrong, it wont work, or last. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school years where i would actually walk to a students home to teach. I have been teaching for over 50 years. Students leave with a sense of excitement and accomplishment and look foward to the next weeks lesson. Making music with new students is always exciting and very rewarding to see a new student actually accomplishing something that will benefit their lives in future years to come. Read More

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
