For younger students and those just starting out, I will usually start with a basic introduction to their instrument, get them acquainted with it and how to properly play the instrument before moving on to basic scales and beginner songs. As for more experienced and older students, I try to figure out what their goals are as a musician and guide the instruction based on those goals and ensuring that things remain engaging as well as educational. I’ve been playing cello since kindergarten and teaching lessons since I was a freshman in high school. Music has always been my passion, and helping pass it on is one of my favorite things to do. Since then, I went on to East Carolina University to major in music but just recently transferred to Western Oregon University to pursue a program closer to what I want to do. I believe that it's best to learn by example, and in music this is often by demonstrating with the instrument. I will always have my instrument out to play along, or demonstrate what I am expecting. I expect my students to practice what is assigned to them so we can both have a productive session with each other, however I do understand that life happens. I’ve performed with churches, college Rock and Jazz ensembles, and recorded for several local groups. I enjoy Jazz, Latin, and World music.
