One thing I try to do is find out what my students goals are and what their skill level is. Based on that I can shape lessons to that end. I have taught students new to the guitar from "The Art of Guitar" by Grant Gustafson. I incorporate things more familiar to the student as well to keep it fun and interesting When I was going through school, I personally studied in the following books. Read More

I've tutored a few freshman when I was a senior in high school, and I can say that I have a good understanding of what a trumpet player (or a wind instrument in general), should be practicing just based on my experience and the teacher's I've had. My goal is to emulate the teaching's I've been taught to another person. I've always been someone who likes teaching, and I've been told that I explain things well. Read More

As previously stated, I love sharing my passion for music and piano with my students! With that being said, watching my students grow as a musician is truly an amazing experience to be apart of! I love to have a good balance with my students of working with technique but also working on something that is fun to play or something of the students pick so that the interest and motivation to play is as high as possible. My curriculum varies depending on what instrument and style the student is learning. For orchestral string instruments I use the Suzuki method books but also others. The Simandl book for bassist is an amazing resource as well. Modern Reading Text by Louis Bellson is a great book for improving not only your rhythm reading ability but also sight reading. For guitar it really depends on what the student wants to focus on. Read More

Each student is different. By monitoring the students' interest, I encourage them to set a goal ofpracticefor the month, and each month that goal time increases little by little. Understanding how to read music and music theory are very important when learning any instrument. Student will be able to play any and all kinds of music if note reading has been taught. Each lesson I set a goal for the following week which is always easy to accomplish with practice. Read More

I've found the best way to teach is to cater to each student's interest. While early or beginning players may require some fundamental grunt work, there is always a way to assure that it's fun too. Earlier students would need to start learning the basics: rhythm, learning to read, developing technique through scales etc. of which there are many methods. As students mature, I feel the Suzuki method for aspiring classical students is the best route (there are multiple books in this series) along with some other extensive and more challenging works.
