Instruments: Violin Cello Viola

I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs for them to grow as percussionist and general musicianship. Read More

Instruments: Piano

My style of teaching revolves around a solid foundation in technique and proper ways to practice. This is the hardest part about having music lessons, because its all about muscle memory. I advise learning the basics before jumping straight into learning pieces. It's very important to play the right way, and more importantly, practice the right way. Another thing that I teach is that failure is not bad in itself, but its only part of the process that lets a student know what to work on. Read More

Instruments: Drums

I've also found that a combination of listening to modern music, and creating drum parts in the mind can go a long way in helping students enjoy the drums and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't learning in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to keep an open mind when it comes to various genres of music. I'm eager to bring on new students of all ages! Read More

Instruments: Guitar Voice Music Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar

For both voice and guitar, I begin with evaluation of where the student is. I then discuss with the student to realize what their goals are, and why they want to progress in this field. I then assign daily exercises that the student can utilize to begin to build control and virtuosity with their instrument. We will then collaborate to begin choosing repertoire to work on, and find music that makes the student enthused to practice in-between our sessions. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Mandolin Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar

I typically start teaching students with very basic chords and very simple songs. I usually feel satisfied if the student is able to pick up on a simple song by the end of the first lesson and learning songs is the best way to learn guitar in my opinion. I usually will work with the student on what music they like and what they want to learn then we can sit and learn it together. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba

For beginner students I like to start away from books and notation and work on sound production and call and response. This is a way to get the ear working and to have some fun with potentially the most daunting part of learning an instrument. Once we have mastered that we move to writen notation and try to match what we have been doing without the book. When a student has progressed towards a good understanding of music notation I will encourage solo repertoire and other projects that are of interest of the students based upon a common goal we have set for our time together. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
