Now fast-forward to March 2021, I was hired by Presidio ISD to teach middle school band. From then until May 2022, I got to teach middle school band along with choir and mariachi. I also occasionally helped at the local high school. What I have learned while teaching middle school, especially with beginners, is that playing along can be helpful initially. My teaching style is to observe each students background. I tend to try approach each student with their own "Language" to make them more easily to understand music theory concepts. Just like what I mentioned before, pure music theory is vague to most people; so I do make examples of implied meaning from other field to make the student catch the logic in their own field knowledge. Solo pieces added over time. Performances - even if only an in home recital for a few family members and friends - are encouraged about once a semester.
