I graduated from Central Conservatory of Music of China with a Bachelor of Music Degree in French Horn Performance. I got my master's from The Boston Conservatory of Music in French Horn Performance. I also got a Graduate Performance Diploma in French Horn at The Boston Conservatory. I've had hundreds of performances as a guest musician with China NCPA (National Center for the Performing Arts) Orchestra and played six concerts in America, including Chicago Symphony Center, Stern Auditorium Carnegie Hall, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Davies Symphony Hall, and HillAuditorium, University of Michigan. When teaching such a specialized topic as the flute, I cater to specific needs of that particular student by bringing out their strengths and providing consistent and genuine positive reinforcement. I use method books such as Trevor Wye, Rubank, and Anderson etudes, depending on the level of the student. In addition to those, I also provide some of my own materials such as scales, fingering charts, and pieces. With beginning students, I use exercises from Suzuki and Essential Elements books as a basis for note reading, but I also frequently use "echo" or "call-and-response" playing. I find this is especially important in developing a student's ear for pitch and tone early on. As a student progresses and their musical interests develop, I combine standard classical repertoire that I grew up playing with song transcriptions of film, jazz, and rock music formatted to match each student's ability level and current technical goals. I started teaching private lessons since I was in high school, and developed personal studio which including ages from 5 up to 35. I have extensive practical experience in helping young students develop their foundational piano skills, music styles as well as creative endeavors, which have been a primary focus of my pedagogic activities. Each student is unique in their own way and is able to learn and apply musical concepts differently; therefore I take a careful and studious approach to make sure that my students have the best advantage by creating a custom lesson plan specific to their learning pace. As every student has different needs I dont have a specific plan that I follow. Rather I like to adapt my lesson plans to each individual students goals and playing ability. I always have my students work on a mixture of technique, etudes, and solo repertoire. For very early beginners I like to work out of Trever Wyes Very First Flute Book and his Beginners Book for the Flute. I also like the book Forty Little Pieces in Progressive Order for Beginner Flutists and from there progress to First Solos for the Flute Player. Read More
