I started my own studio at the age of 23. I found this to be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. In 2000, I entered the Music Education program at The University of Memphis. I continue to teach privately. I have taught children as young as 5 to adults of the age of 72. I have also taught string orchestra for 12 years. For students of all ages, I start with a small book focusing on the essential elements of the instrument while teaching them something fun and recognizable. As basic techniques are acquired and musical concepts are grasped, I tailor the lesson to what the students long term goals are. An example would be a 12 year old on violin wants to excel in his or her orchestra program, so I pick certain pieces, books, and techniques to teach that will help them accomplish this. Read More

I believe in age appropriate techniques and repertoire, and use both warm-ups and vocalises, along with accessible repertoire to foster technique and give students the tools they need to think through a song on their own. I follow standard Bel Canto technique for all of my students, then teach modifications for each style. Even my belter students are still asked to sing in their head voice for vocal health and balance. Read More

I started playing drums and percussion 12 years ago, both classically, and privately trained. I was taught all play styles, and approaches to percussive arts. In high school, I was apart of a drum line and in 2015, I started drumming in a Rockabilly group in southern Illinois. Shortly after, I began to fill in for a rock band, jazz band, and another rockabilly band in the area. Since moving to Texas, I have started to teach with Hays CISD as a guest teacher/tutor. My lessons always start with a mix of theory based info and instrument technique. I don’t use books or any of that mumbo jumbo, because everything you need to know is free online. I will help guide your exploration in music, and I will encourage you to soak in information from musical sources other than myself. In high school I was a section leader for three years in the marching band, and helped a group of around 15 trumpets with music and marching fundamentals.
