I am passionate about music and singing. I love to perform and I love to share my passion for music through teaching. I graduated from Portland State University with a Master's in Vocal Performance.I am a student of reknowned baritone Richard Zeller. He is a valuable resource to me for my own singing, as well as a source of teaching advice.I am most experienced with classical repertoire, including songs in German, French, English, and Italian, but I also teach some musical theatre. For all beginning students, I start with the Suzuki books. They introduce new techniques in a comprehensible way that helps build upon fundamentals before progressing to more advanced techniques. After a bit with Suzuki, I like to add the Dotzauer etude book, which helps to focus on one technique per etude, building on what we learned earlier in Suzuki. Then, once the student’s musicality has developed a bit more, I add the first Bach Cello Suite: something recognizable, yet challenging and engaging. Read More

In 4th grade I got a recorder and from then on I've soaked up all the music experiences around me. I fondly remember my first solo performance was 5th grade, and my first honor band was that summer. By my senior year of high school I had been involved in a couple dozen honor bands/choirs/orchestras including an amazing tour of Europe in a 200 person band! I've taught individual lessons to little kids and elders, of all different skill levels, and strongly believe that it is never too late to learn an instrument. Read More

I like to use a wide variety of materials, from classical to jazz music. CLARINET: For clarinet students, I use "standard" conservatory etude and scale books (such as the Rose Studies and Behrmann Studies). I also use the Jamey Abersold Jazz Methods, which feature CD 'play-a-long' recordings of jazz music. I also have my students perform a wide range of solo music, from 'standards' like the Mozart Clarinet Concerto to 20th century repertoire by composers like Bernstein, Copland and others. I think it is important for students to be able to play jazz and improvise, so I teach them about Blues and how to play jazz, as well as classical music. Read More

For beginning students I usually use the Faber method. I usually work through to level 2a then I begin exposing the student to repertoire. Each lesson is spent listening to the work they have done and music theory, of course. Each week the student will be assigned a task to complete. For adults, it very much depends on what the student already knows, what they want to learn and how much experience they have. Read More

My teaching experience began roughly four years ago during one of my college summer breaks when I taught weekly private piano lessons to two children who were advanced-beginner students. In our lessons, the students learned various ways to develop their technique and prepared repertoire that they later performed at the end of the summer. After the summer ended and they finished giving their recitals, I took a break from teaching to finish getting my degree. Read More

Hi there! My name is Michelle and I'm a 22 year old aspiring band director. I've been studying music for the last 4 years in college now and have been teaching on the side. I began giving group lessons in 9th grade and as of today, I still do. Now I also teach privet lessons with various middle and high school students. I've been awarded and praised for my playing numerous times as well as grades to show it. Read More
