I feel that it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. This measurable progression of accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. Of course finding out the students problem areas is also paramount to helping them progress at the fastest rate possible. I also believe that while our relationship is professional, I do take a personal interest in each of my students as some of the best teachers I have ever had, took a personal interest in me. I have been working out of my record studio since 2013 but I have been recording since 2004. I have also served as the assistant band director at midfield high. Giving rudimentary lessons to the drummers and working on the theory and range with the upper brass was one of the many jobs that I was assigned to as assistant director. I have worked with middle school high school colleges and clients who just wanted to record or get better. Read More

For beginning students, I like to start with some starting note learning drills on paper or going through some beginner books. I am a firm believer in that the more a student practices reading music, the easier it will come. I realize that some students learn music better by ear, and I will work to develop that skill alongside the essentials of reading the music on paper. As they progress, I hope to introduce different kinds of solo music in order to teach different skills and techniques that are involved, while still keeping the music fun and accomplishing the goals that the student wants to accomplish. My approach to teaching music is essentially a synthesis of my formal music education and a distillation of what I have learned from my experiences gigging. While a fluency with music notation is a great benefit and a necessity for some styles, a bassist will not work without the ability to make the music feel good. This feel can only be achieved through developing one's sensitivities to pitch and time. Read More

I have been playing guitar for 30 years now. I began performing with various bands at the age of 14. I am thankful to have had talented musical mentors (band members, teachers, songwriters, studio musicians, professional musicians) to learn from and grow with over the years. I began teaching guitar back in 1991, while attending Samford University. I have continued to teach over the years since then, both part-time and full-time. I performed with various bands (of my own and joining with others in) throughout high school and college. Read More

For beginning students, I use the first Essential Element book to introduce the first instrument and theory concepts. Once students have progressed past this book, I use the Tune a Day series along with the accompanying scale book. This book introduces students to solo and duet pieces worthy of a recital performance. Once they have reached the third book and are progressing through etudes, students begin working on individual solo repertoire pieces. Read More

As a musician, there is nothing more rewarding than sharing my love and knowledge for music with others. My primary focus is to make sure the student is enjoying the lessons and learning the style of music they desire to learn. Nobody enjoys lessons where they have to play styles of music that they are not interested in, which also poses the threat of the student losing their interest in learning music. Read More
