To be successful at an instrument, it's important for a student to have something that drives their motivation. Playing an instrument is fun, but is also a lot of work and takes practice, perseverance, and patience. I strive to make lessons fun and to help the student find what encourages them to persevere. Music is a language: you must learn to speak, listen to, read and write a language to be fluent. Read More

For beginning students, I emphasize fundamentals, including technique, sound quality, and reading. With children, I like to start with method books such as Essential Elements or the John Thompson series for piano. For more advanced pupils, I will start with what they are currently working on, find areas for improvement, and then adjust the curriculum accordingly. However, no matter what the students interests or skill level are, I try and keep the lessons light, fun, and interesting! Read More

Music was created to be ENJOYABLE (meaning it "brings IN JOY" to our souls) - therefore everything about it should be just that! My teaching style is much like my personality - Fun, laid back, with a good balance of buckling down when needed, joyful & a perfectionist. I will push my students gently & encourage them to learn the styles THEY want in a very professional and multi-faceted way. Having worked with thousands of kids & teenagers, I've learned that charisma is contagious & when given the proper tools & support, they can do exceedingly & abundantly more than what they (or I) could ever imagine! It has helpful tools such as changing pitch and tempo (independently of one another), selecting, cutting, looping, changing volume, adding effects, and may other functions. I would highly recommend this application or something comparable to students trying to learn songs and I can teach how to use it. Read More

Because of this, most people had given up or lost patience with him. I met him and instantly was excited because I saw the potential he had! I took the approach of patience and fun because I saw that he needed to have the lesson be interesting in order to pay full attention. I came up with a variety of unique ways we could practice tempo, notation, etc, without getting bored. Read More
