The more familiar the student is with the instrument the easier it is for them to be more confident in their performance. I encourage my students to perform in recitals and to compete as well as be apart of a band program as well. It is a great way to make wonderful friends. To this day I have made my best friends from being in band from a young age that I keep in close touch with to this day. Read More

I've had the pleasure of helping and mentoring countless colleagues and fellow students through my career. I've learned through the years that there is no one single curriculum to rule them all. I tend to see them like The Pirate's Code...just a guideline. Musicians bring more than just their ability into the classroom; they also bring their personality! I have been teaching music full-time for eighteen years. Primarily, I founded and led the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble (ECPE), a truly unique and acclaimed group. Our focus was on active music-making, performance, and recording. The group made three professional recordings, performed widely, and challenged audience expectations everywhere they did. Privately, I have taught drumming to many individuals, from young students just starting out, to professional musicians looking to add drums to their instrumental repertoire, to people needing help overcoming sensory issues. Once these have been assessed I like to select repertoire that allows the student to use their growing musicianship and skills. Read More

Learning to play a musical instrument is a life-long journey on which the traveler continuously learns, grows, and develops. My work as a teacher is to meet my students wherever they are in their journey and guide them to the next stage in their development. To do this, there must first be a supportive, safe container in which that development can take place. This is my primary focus. Second, one of my teachers once said that people need to be reminded more than they need to be instructed. Read More
