Instruments: Piano Voice
I have always been passionate about music! I started taking lessons at 8years old and haven't stopped since. I knew right away that this was my calling, that music was going to be my life. I started teaching before I even graduated high school, helping and learning from my own instructors who helped me become a great teacher myself! I have had many amazing opportunities to play all across the country, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Lincoln Hall, Summerfest, and with Dizzy Reed of Guns and Roses. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone Euphonium Tuba
Throughout my college career, I have learned to teach students rather than babysit students in order to have them achieve their very best. Teaching is the organizing or guiding of a process in which students learn. Teaching is there so students can learn. Babysitting is simply watching the students without them necessarily learning anything. I strongly believemusic teachers should possess a love of music and an enjoyment of working with people. Instruments: Piano Voice
I base my teaching style on the individual student and how they learn. Some students learn more by rote, others learn more by oral and others learn more by understanding theory. I always incorporate proper technique so that the student developes as quickly as possible. For those students who like working from a more traditional sense I work primarily with the John Thompsen and Bastien Piano Methods. Other students, especially students that start at an older age I work immediately by having them play familiar songs and melodies and as their technique improves providing them with more difficult music to play. Instruments: Flute
I have a few different options for method books, and I base what method to use depending on what you have learned before starting lessons with me and your age. I have acquired a variety of method books from my own studies, from my sister (who also played flute), and from teaching over the years. I don't like to follow one 'correct' way of teaching the flute, because there isn't one! Read More
Instruments: Flute Recorder Piccolo
For my beginning young students, I generally start them on a book called "The Potential Contender" by Rebecca Simonfalvi. It is a wonderful book that will have the student playing a major scale in as little as a week! From there, I tend to gravitate towards the Rubank series, as they are often what's most used in schools for auditions, and covers several levels of playing. Rubank also has several collections of solos for young flutists to try. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Clarinet
I have over 10 years of performing and teaching experience in a variety of genres. My past private teachers include members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Delaware Symphony, PA Ballet, and New York Philharmonic. Read More
Instruments: Voice
For beginning students who are children, I greatly emphasize vocal exercises to help strengthen their voice. Once the student has a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire based on the genre of music they prefer, as well as basic songs that would benefit them to learn. No matter the ability level, fundamentals are of the utmost importance. Having a wide range of repertoire is also helpful learning different styles helps a student become more versatile. Read More
