I had two girls who loved to act and really wanted to be in the musical but had never sung a note. We worked every day after school for two weeks before auditions. I ended up casting them as Cinderella's Stepsisters. Their song was nominated for a Jester Award (astate-wide theatre awards program for Kansas High Schools) forBest Production Number. I like to start out with extremely simple fundamentals which can then be seen in most every piece of music. Connections like that are important for any student. For younger students I heavily emphasize just having fun, and that every lesson they can go home and say 'look mom/dad at what I can do!' I am now currently teaching multiple students throughout the Piedmont triad area as well as online Skype lessons in trumpet fundamentals, classical and jazz.
