For young children (3-9) I exclusively use the Suzuki method and require a lot of parental involvement. I am happy to start children ages 10+ as well as teenagers. Having been a product of a school orchestra myself, I will use a more traditional teaching approach. The adult beginner or adult returner presents unique challenges but I wholeheartedly believe its never too late to start playing an instrument. Hello future students! I much enjoy sharing my experience as a creative musician to my students whether they are 5 or 55, beginner or advanced. I am a patient teacher and do my best to encourage each student to find themselves as unique learners (musicians) unto themselves. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2002 with a BA focus on Music Composition. While recently living in NYC, I formed a 12-member saxophone orchestra, composed and recorded two symphonies, performed and recorded with the late Glenn Branca's 100 Guitar Ensemble, and provided live Sound Design for renowned poetess Anne Carson. I choose the course of study based on the individual student. Beginners usually start in "Flute 101" or the Blocki Method - Book 1. Really young students start on a small, Nuvo flute, to accommodate size, then graduate to a traditional flute. I have a number of games and projects for young beginners. Adult students learn a lot of repertoire and/or work through etude books to improve fundamentals and musical skills. Read More

I really couldn't really get enough of the live music scene. I started playing in more groups, traveling the US and making records. I still do all of this today, having a collective 3 years of tour experience under my belt. I have made records with groups that have been released on several record labels, Including Paper+Plastick records, Vinyl Communique records and even Epitaph Records. I began teaching 17 years ago while completing my Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance.I have passion for teaching students of all ages the fundamentals of singing. These include breathing, posture, and mouth position.These fundamentals stand students in good stead to sing whatever style they choose for the rest of their lives. Depending on a student's interests, I could start with several books like Rufus Reid's Evolving Bassist (for all-around bass playing). If reading skills are a main goal of a student's focus, I use repertoire from the standard canon and IMSLP. I feel that improvisation is an often overlooked key to self-expression and mastery of one's instrument, so I introduce concepts used in making up solos and some theory as soon as possible. Read More
