For bass guitar I use the Mel Bay Bass Guitar Method which takes a student from creating rocking bass lines to building kicking bass licks from chord changes.Double Bass students will have classical training, techniques to build a solid, warm tone, use of the bow, and orchestral repertoire, including solo pieces. I am a passionate instructor who enjoys working with students of all ages. I started performing, professionally, at a very young age, during my 6 years at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. From there, I attended the Louisiana State University, as a cello performance major and performed with the school symphony, as well as the Alexandria Symphony, the Lake Charles Symphony and local venues. I went on to get my Master's degree at Georgia State University and then returned to Louisiana State University for my final degree in Cello Performance. Read More

For the beginning string player I like to start with a Hal Leonard method book to communicate and help string players master the basics. Once the student has progressed I will begin some solo repertoire from varying genres. I find it is always helpful to allow students to play music that they enjoy - experiencing a range of both popular and classical pieces to broaden their horizons. I am a positive and encouraging instructor, and emphasize proper technique, music theory, and fundamentals through a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to popular music. My students are all ages (I once had a student start at the age of 70!) and come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I work with students to help them balance a practice schedule with the rest of their lives. My goal with my students is always to see them enjoy themselves while growing as musicians. I want to know what inspires my students and what they strive for as well, though it's always okay if they can't answer that immediately. Learning an instrument is a journey. I believe that the most important part of my teaching style is positive reinforcement. The most successful teachers and mentors that I know or have studied with readily acknowledge a student's strengths and are not afraid of letting them know when they are proud of their students.
