I took guitar lessons for five years. I took all four music theory classes and all three music history classes (ancient to baroque, classical and romantic, and contemporary) in college. In college a gave two recitals with a variety of music from different periods including a couple of pieces of my own. Once student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the recital performance. For adults, if student is beginner, I usually start with Alfreds Adult Beginner book. Ive been in choirs (from community to All-State) since I was born, literally - my mom was the church choir director, and I followed suit, assisting her and student-directing my high school choir. I started piano lessons in 4th grade and used it to compose my own music and play in churches since then.
