Based on a child's interest and personal voice, I recommend pieces of music varying from musical theatre, 28 Italian Songs, Schirmer's Book of Solos, and Hal Leonard's Standard Literature. In our lessons, I teach students to warm up with the proper technique, and so that they may warm themselves up when practicing. We also work on sight reading and dictation to implement musical literacy. Most importantly, we discuss textual meaning and how it relates to our performance skills. Read More

I have my special teaching method "PPP" which refers to "Passionate, Personal and Professional". "Passionate" - I believe that music should help people find the beauty and happiness in their lives; "Personal" - Teaching should be very personal! Everyone has a different background and we are all unique! I always custom lesson plans for each of my students and we could discuss about your personal plan; "Professional" - No matter if you are learning music for fun or you have a goal in pursuing music as a career, I would always teach and help the students to improve the musicianships under the professional standard. I love teaching specifically because I love helping others find their passion. At each lesson, I'll check in with the students to see how they are feeling that day (so I'm aware of any different energies in the room). Then, for instruments, I'll start by listening to the material that they were supposed to prepare over the past week. For voice lessons, I'll start with vocalises and then move into repertoire material. Read More

I don’t believe one method fits all! I believe each person is an individual, so students should be taught as who they are with their own pace. I emphasize on communication, motivation, and patience for both piano and singing. Basically these 3 elements are missing in our society, especially young students. Everything is being promoted as “Express Way” now as learning process without the middle part, but this won’t work for piano or singing. Read More

I emphasize both notes and rhythms in my teaching, and for both notes and rhythms, I strongly believe in the importance of being able to not only read them, but hear and feel them as well. These aural skills are an immense part of accelerating a student's development, helping them learn and memorize music quickly, familiarizing them with music theory, and creating a close personal relationship between themselves and their musical studies. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 9 years ago and have been consistently teaching student in my studio for the last 2 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key point I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for singing. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy singing and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More
