I believe every person learns differently and thrives off of positive reinforcement, which is why I base my curriculum solely on who I'm currently working with. Every student I work with has their own specific curriculum. Every week I'll have an assignment for the student to practice that will be expected to be completed. My methods vary on the student and subject. Beginning students will typically focus more on technical pieces of music to improve on certain aspects of a few pieces to perform. More advanced students will still practice technical parts of their music, but less time will be spent on it during a lesson. Advanced level students will spend more time on repertoire and performance. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student make progress while developing their passion for music. During a lesson, I make corrections based on what I see needs to be improved. I make sure to encourage the student, praising them for their successes. I think it's important to have strong communication during a lesson. I've spent time in the elementary music classroom as well as the middle and high school music classrooms. I have teaching experience in the areas of voice, choir, percussion, show choir, guitar, piano, music history, and musical theatre history. I give Suzuki violin, viola and cello lessons. I also use classical method with scales, etudes and solo pieces in my teaching as another option. With fiddle students I use Ann Wheeler method books. My piano students use Faber piano series. My Guitar students use Hal Leonard guitar method and guitar song collections.
