For beginners I typically start with the Piano Adventure series, and supplement with other familiar tunes for holidays. Depending on interest, students will receive additional music. From early intermediate level I assign music from baroque, classical, romantic or modern eras, and technical exercises like Hannon or Czerny. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. It's important to me that students are invested in their own lessons, and what this means will differ from student to student. For some five year olds, that may be simply participating in the whole lesson and practicing a few minutes per week. For others, it may mean being challenged with advanced materials. Each student will receive a unique repertoire and lesson based on ability and interests.
