Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. For beginners students I typically start with music exploration, with percussion instruments or even turning or our bodies into a musical instrument, then once they have decide the instrument they want to learn, we begin with muscle memory and easy basic repertoire, for students that have been already initiated, I find out what kind of music there interested about and provide some of the basic skills to perform the piece they are interested in and slowly but surely introduced the basic skill to properly perform the piece.
