First lesson I start by assessing what level the student is at and what goals they have with their music and develop a lesson plan from there. I focus first on fundamentals of sound and technique to build a foundation for the student then work on scales and repertoire to get them playing music. From there it is a focus on musicality and performance. A lesson plan for example may be working on solo repertoire by breaking down the piece by focusing on different elements that make the song; the scale, they rhythm, certain patterns by measure, techniques required, etc. Read More

As an avid music instructor of three different instruments, I have a very diverse teaching background that encompasses approximately six years of cumulative musical training to students of all ages. As a patient and understanding teacher, I have worked with students with Asperger's syndrome as well as students with severe ADHD. In my lessons, I emphasize consistent practice that is paired with consistent positive and encouraging feedback so that my students truly learn to grow not only as musicians, but as individuals. For the students that already know the concept and how to play the instrument, I ask where they are and I continue to provide them more so they can continue in there progress. Read More

In my opinion, my goal for the student is to be motivated, and stay motivated to try to also work at their instrument outside their lessons on their own. I would not want to cram information down their throats, but I also would not want to spend too much time on tasks that would get the student or myself carried away. The process of slowing things down and working them in chunks is, in my opinion, very efficient because the retention sets in really well and it also helps the student get in the habit of how to practice properly, and this goes for any level of student.
