Hello! I've been teaching music as long as I've been performing, going back many years. I'm an energetic, supportive teacher and coach, who is focused on each student's needs. Since I've performed worldwide in many different genres, I'm very comfortable working in styles ranging from pop to musical theatre, jazz and blues to classical music. All of my students learn piano classically, but I focus on finding other genres and styles that will help the student become connected with the music they learn to create. Students can expect to have structured lessons that incorporate technique exercises, rhythmic foundations, music theory, and repetoire that is appropriate for their age and ability. My teaching style is based on 3 of my core beliefs. (1) The student is the most important person in the class  ( This is why I do not force  a particular method on every student. I have taught privately since 2006, though occasionally I will take two students from the same household, church or neighborhood and pair them up in what is known as a "partner lesson". Each person takes turns at the piano playing their respective scales, repertoire etc. and we offer one another encouragement as well as constructive criticism for those technical issues in need of improvement. For beginning students who are children, I start with Faber and Faber book sets. I then use the books to help guide the students as they grow their abilities and levels. For adults, I would also use Faber and Faber adult beginner books. As well as other adult beginner books based on the music genre preference of the adult. As an avid music instructor of three different instruments, I have a very diverse teaching background that encompasses approximately six years of cumulative musical training to students of all ages.
