I am a fully-certified music educator of over 20 years: I have taught both middle school band & choir to at-risk youth for 3 years, as well as elementary music at a private Christian academy for an additional 3 years. With the saxophone as my principal instrument of 35 years now, I also play many other instruments that I teach, including: Piano, Violin, Drums, Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and Trombone. Everybody learns differently and has different musical goals so I stay open-minded and tailor my lessons on an individual basis. for children and beginners, I focus on technique and very basic theory to get them started playing the songs they like. My teaching style is very laid back and encouraging. I love seeing a student pick up a new instrument but I usually sense a lot of nerves and bad self talk. I believe when learning anything, one should be comfortable to fail and ask questions. I try to make sure this is understood right away. I have a basic structure at the beginning of my lessons that includes scales and chords, but I like to use the rest of the sessions to work on what the student has been inspired by. Read More

Some students need explicit instruction and to be pushed, others need gentle guidance with time and space to work things out for themselves.
