For beginners students I typically start with music exploration, with percussion instruments or even turning or our bodies into a musical instrument, then once they have decide the instrument they want to learn, we begin with muscle memory and easy basic repertoire, for students that have been already initiated, I find out what kind of music there interested about and provide some of the basic skills to perform the piece they are interested in and slowly but surely introduced the basic skill to properly perform the piece. I believe that every student has the potential to succeed. It is my goal as an instructor to guide the student toward their vision of success, whether it be personal, professional, or some mixture of both. Every student should be challenged, but nobody should ever feel as if music is some form of art that is lost on them. I seek to set standards and expectations high to learn alongside the student and to grow, both as people and as musicians, until the point at which they have exhausted my knowledge so that they may one day reminisce with pride and accomplishment on the path that I have set them upon. My approach to lessons is one that is customized to the student. I don't believe in a one size fits all method. I use the same material and books that have helped me improve as well as customizable methods for each student. These methods include: learning how to process information effectively, how to retain the information and also how to excecute that information at any moment. I also help with the psychology of music learning and performing which is often overlooked. Read More

My lessons are very structured and fun. I incorporate games, visual aids, physical application, and live demonstrations to help appeal to the different styles. I do expect a high level of commitment from students while still being understanding that life doesnt always allow us to practice hours and hours a day. Since I do provide a lot of information within each lesson, I add a 5 minute break (if needed) to help clear the mind or just rest the eyes/arms since staring at music for a long period of time or holding up an instrument for a long period of time can be quite taxing. I usually balances the time by working first on fundamental/technical aspects of the instrument: intonation, articulation, rhythm, and tone; followed by study of the particular student's chosen repertoire, whether it be jazz standards, rock/pop/blues tunes, classical literature or etudes. I believe in teaching students to organize their practice time wisely, isolating specific issues on the instrument. Cultivating personal musical goals with each student is also very important, in order to maximize the student's enjoyment of the time they spend playing. Read More

I am a motivated, creative, and experienced singer and pianist, performing as a professional musician since the age of 17 in multiple musical theatre roles, a private musician for parties and weddings, and as a teacher for the last 10 years. I am a child at heart, so I get along very well (sometimes too well, it would seem) with kids, and enjoy connecting our music lessons to science, language arts, mathematics and history to enrich their overall edification. For beginning drum set students, the program I recommend is starting with Drum Set Essentials by Peter Erskine. As skills in rudiments and basic patterns develop, I go on to materials such as Syncopation by Ted Reed (reading, coordination, technique), and Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone (technique). For piano, I go over basic theory, major and minor scales, chords and arpeggios and work in Piano For Adults by James Bastien. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
