Most of my professional tutoring experience has been in mathematics! I tutored in high school, college, and over a year at various agencies. I find the experience has helped me teach my band mates music over the years. There are many transferable skills. I've played in numerous bands over the years ranging from soft indie rock to heavy metal. My catalog of original music is extensive and there are frequently written parts for many instruments. I continue to develop my skills as a musician in a very goal-oriented manner so I like to utilize that aspect of learning with my teaching. Learning an instrument can take a lot of practice and at times can seem like you don't even see a flicker of light at the end of a tunnel. Because of this, I find it very effective to keep focusing on daily, weekly and monthly goals. Read More

I like to create lesson plans around what kind of music the student wants to learn. For example, most young girls want to learn Disney princess songs. So I print them off their own copies of the songs that they had expressed an interest in learning. I feel like if the student is not interested in playing or singing the music that I am giving them it could be the best curriculum in the world, but it won't help them learn if they are not actively engaged in the music they are singing or playing. Because I have had voice training and have taught using many different methods, my students find much more quickly what works for them and their goals. They also have enjoyed the freedom of being able to tell me the sound they are wanting to make and receiving instruction how to make that sound, rather than being told they can only sing in a certain genre (usually classical) with a certain kind of sound (also usually classical). I always tailor my lessons to my students needs and desires and never waste time. Nothing is more important than a students progress and growth so I weed out all the irrelevant or potentially boring information in music lessons and cut straight to the chase of what is going to help the student learn and enjoy their progress. I encourage consistent feedback and communication so that I may know I am succeeding in navigating the students musical experience. Read More

Every student has a different learning style and learns at their own pace. I myself am a tactile kinesthetic learner and tend to teach this way. For example, I enjoy using colored pencils to highlight articulation and dynamics. If a student is younger, I use stickers to help students keep track of where they are in the piece. I tailor my instruction to what each of my students needs and want to learn. Read More

I am a passionate and dedicated musician with a broad range of experiences both in education and performance. As a solo artist, I have toured the United States extensively, and have performed at festivals in the Caribbean and Denmark. Having performed and taught music in so many styles, I feel I can bring a lot of perspective to each lesson. I earned my Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas in 2015, and have really settled in to the Central Texas community. Read More
