Much of my lesson plan is specific to the age, experience, desire and ability of the student, but the basics tend to remain the same. I try to craft dexterity and melodic exercises to unite the ear and fingers, while crating a basic understanding of the theory involved, a rhythmic exercise which teaches comping and time, and assign a song to work on between lessons. For a creative activity, I encourage my students to relax and have fun while learning about the nuances of the music playing to comprehend the relationship between the theory and the performance. I believe that music learning is just like the alphabet, learning each letter by the time. My personal goal is to teach my students how to be performers and play beautiful music on the concert stage. If there is a particular song or style that they would like to learn(and is reasonably within their ability level or I am able to modify), I work to teach it to them. My teaching style is geared mainly towards going over fundamentals while finding the students interest in music. I encourage my students to listen to as much music as possible, to explore and find what they really enjoy. I began teaching piano 4 years ago, I had not originally intended on teaching, but I had several people inquire about lessons, since they had seen me perform.
